PLAYBACK QUALITY

Practical requirements for 4K and Dolby Vision

For 4K playback, sustained throughput throughout the viewing session matters more than a peak briefly shown by a speed test. Streaming uses segmented delivery and adaptive bitrate. A route that spikes briefly and then drops can still produce repeated quality reductions, long waits after seeking, or a sharp opening followed by blurrier video. Dolby Vision first requires the title itself to offer a compatible version. The playback device, display, app version and connection path must also support it together.
